Discernment Counseling
Discernment counseling is one of our most requested services. We are fortunate to have a Certified Discernment Counselor in our practice in Dr. Jillian Blum, as well as other therapists who have been trained and are able to use the model highly effectively.
Discernment Counseling is a short-term, structured process designed for couples who are uncertain about the future of their relationship.
Unlike traditional couples therapy, which focuses on improving the relationship, Discernment Counseling helps partners gain clarity and confidence about whether to attempt to rehab a relationship, move toward separation or divorce, or take additional time before making a major decision.
This service is particularly helpful when one partner is leaning out of the relationship while the other hopes to preserve it.
Through a series of focused conversations, the counselor helps each individual better understand how the relationship reached its current state, identify personal contributions to ongoing challenges, and explore realistic paths forward.
The goal is not to force a particular outcome, but to help couples make thoughtful, informed decisions with greater understanding, respect, and intention.
Discernment Counseling typically consists of a maximum of five sessions, which are 90 minutes long.
Discernment Counseling can take place in our offices in Decatur or Marietta, or virtually across Georgia.
